Heavy Traffic

It was the first time i've thrown streamers on that stream and it was the best day i ever had out there. usually i nymph or throw dries but with the recent success i've had throwing streamers on small water lately i figured why not. even though i moved a ton of fish it seemed like the good lord was testing my patience as most of the fish would either just swipe at my fly or follow it on the swing then just nip at it. i netted around 10 fish but sure would've liked to of netted more, obviously. probably a dozen or so of those fish were really nice ones, 18 inch range, which is a pretty good fish for that water. the water had a slight stain to it and it was up in cfs, i think water is probably being released from the dam, but the i sure did move a good amount of feesh.

Minus a Brown

After work today i hooked with chris and derrick, they were heading someplace i hadn't fished before so i was anxious to hit it. it's always good to have connections, especially ones that have access to places. the weather was perfect and the water low and clear. streamers were what was for lunch. we took a variety of fish including cutts, brooks and a nice little rainbow, a brown was the one trout we missed.

Not our day

I finally got access to some private water here in utard, water that i have fished before when it was legal about 3 years ago. i gave dbone a shout when i got up and we hooked up to toss some big flies at big trout. when we got there the water was a bit stained but fishable. it didn't take long before the water started to turn brown and, at least my hopes, quickly faded. with reports, from dbone of clearer water elsewhere, we quickly headed out with a new found optimism. the water was clear and the flows were good. i have been wanting to get back to this place for a couple of years now but just haven't made it. well the fishing there sucked as well but dbone did manage to take a solid brown bucking some white meat. i on the other hand only moved about 3 fish and landed 1 small one. if nothing else at least the weather was kick ass, t-shirt weather for dbone. the company was good and the conversation back was a good one.

The Wife Insisted.....

Not really but if she's going to stay in bed all morning then i'm outta here. i started off on a small piece of crystal clear water hoping to get some fish to look up, not a chance. i had fished thru numerous runs, riffles, slack water, etc. without even a nudge. i was seeing fish just nothing willing to take a dry. i walked back to the jeep to see what nymphs i had in there. i was able to round up a few so switched over and started to tie on some nymphs. before i got that done i realized i forgot my indicators, i don't nymph without them. so, i still had my streamer rod in the jeep and rigged up so drove elsewhere to chuck the bigger stuff. hit a short section and managed to miss a bunch of fish, actually i didn't miss any, they just keep swiping at and missing my shit. i did manage a brown and a cutt though so it wasn't a total loss.

Nice Weather Don't Mean Shit

So this was the first time me and Dbone had fished together. we met up at a place he hadn't fished before and was anxious to give it a go. i was anxious to cause the weather was supposed to be in the high 40's and i wanted to fish higher then i had fished before and see what the river had to offer up there. the weather did not disappoint but the fish certainly did. right away i landed a small 13ish inch fish and as i was releasing it, DNR showed up to check our licenses, it was good to see. yes we both had ours. dbone did ask him if we were legal to fish upstream. the officer said he hated it when people ask him that question cause he wasn't totally sure. i told him i have fished there numerous times and have had land owners come down while i was fishing and be friendly to me and make small talk. he said if the people don't seem to care then so be it. we fished well into virgin territory for me and even though we covered such a long stretch we only moved a small handful of fish and only landed a few but we both landed 1 fish that measured right at 20" so it was not all lost. the long walk back was tiring and sweaty and i couldn't wait to discard all the clothes i was wearing.

Misty Mountain Hop

......Is what popped into my mind when looking up at the mountains and seeing the clouds descending upon them and the blowing snow from all the wind up there created kind of a misty feel upon the day. me and jon met at the river, it was the first time we had met. he wanted to get a little more of a feel for streamer fishing so off we went loaded for bear. i am certainly no expert but do it a lot more then he does so he wanted to see how i attack holes and runs. unfortunately i mostly able to show him how to miss fish cause like most days i missed most of them. we each only landed 2 fish so it was an incredibly slow day. not sure if it was cause of the recent storm or the high winds or just that the fish didn't care to plat much, but as long of a stretch as fished, it was slow. jon did land a nice cuttie and i finshed with a solid 20" brown. even though the fishing was garbage the bug population was not. it had to uv been the most midges i have ever seen. not much in the water or buzzing around but they littered the snow. at around 1ish the bwo's started to patrol the snow as well. this weekend is supposed to be a lot warmer so looking forward to it.

At least that's the way i felt during todays bout. i got hit so many times i was left bloody and beatn' and generally ass whooped. o.k. maybe it was quit that extreme but man did i get hit a lot. the water again was low and clear, as i expected it to be. white seemed to be the meal ticket, with yellow getting a little love but not enough for me to stick with. after throwing some olive as well and not even getting a noticeable look i was back to white and got hit a few more times. after yesterdays brutal winds and cold today was quite pleasant.
