I do a lot of reading when it comes to fly fishing and one thing that i have been seeing a lot of are stories and articles regarding fishing with kids in tow. it got me to thinking and had me realize that as much as i love fishing with my usual partners, fishing with my kids gives me the greatest joy. jake (16) and shayne (12) both started to learn to fly fish when they were 8. jake has taken more to it then shayne but she still enjoys fishing when she goes. a lot of times she is just happy going and may just want to make about a dozen casts or so then she is good. jake he often out-fishes me now and over the last couple of years, at least in numbers. when it comes to bigger fish, i usually win that aspect of it. jake has really come into his own and sometimes when i watch him cast, i think, damn i wish my loop looked that nice. whenever i drive to colorado to visit them we always get at least one day in if not more, just depends on what else is going on. one thing that i have noticed is is that jake can handle the dead of winter fishing a hell of a lot better then shayne so for that reason shayne sometimes will choose not to come with during the winter months. i think shayne is more into tying flies. she once sat down one night and tied about 20 of the ugliest streamers you have seen, but she liked them because of all the bright colors she was tying with. they will be staying with me a for a month or so when i get back from iraq, in a couple of weeks, so i am anticipating a lot of outing with them. i was going through one of my galleries and compiled some pics of jake and shayne doing some fly fishing. i look forward to many, many more years fly fishing with my kids.
